چکیده

1 Junyu Dong and Mike Chantler are with the Texture Lab, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland([email protected]) Abstract We present and compare five approaches for synthesizing and relighting real 3D surface textures. We adapted Efros’s texture quilting method and combined it with five different relighting representations, comprising: a set of three photometric images; surface gradient and albedo maps; polynomial texture maps; and two eigen based representations using 3 and 6 base images. We used twelve real textures to perform quantitative tests on the relighting methods. We develop a systematic qualitative test for the assessment of the complete synthesis systems. Our conclusion is that the cheaper gradient and threebase-image eigen methods should be used in preference to the other methods, especially where the surfaces are Lambertian or near Lambertian.

Three-dimensional surface texture synthesis

Texture synthesis has been extensively investigated by both computer vision and computer graphics communities during the past twenty years. However, the input and output are normally 2D intensity texture images. If the subjects are 3D surface textures (such as brick, woven or knitted textiles, embossed wallpapers etc.), these 2D synthesis techniques cannot provide the information required for r...

Direct Geometric Texture Synthesis and Transfer on 3D Meshes

We present a technique for the transfer and synthesis of geometric texture on 3D surface meshes. Our technique combines localised surface fitting together with non-parametric sampling to facilitate the extraction, transfer and successful synthesis of geometric relief from one surface mesh to another.

Exemplar-Based Surface Texture

Realistic rendering of computer modeled three dimensional surfaces typically involves estimation of the reflectance properties of the material to be used for rendering the surface, or use of photographs of the material for texturing instead. Bidirectional texture functions (BTFs) can be used for this purpose, however, full coverage of all viewing and lighting directions desired must be acquired...

Eigen-Texture Method: Appearance Compression and Synthesis Based on a 3D Model

ÐImage-based and model-based methods are two representative rendering methods for generating virtual images of objects from their real images. However, both methods still have several drawbacks when we attempt to apply them to mixed reality where we integrate virtual images with real background images. To overcome these difficulties, we propose a new method, which we refer to as the Eigen-Textu...

Recognition methods for 3D textured surfaces

Texture as a surface representation is the subject of a wide body of computer vision and computer graphics literature. While texture is always associated with a form of repetition in the image, the repeating quantity may vary. The texture may be a color or albedo variation as in a checkerboard, a paisley print or zebra stripes. Very often in real-world scenes, texture is instead due to a surfac...
